AROUND TOWN ❖ LEWISBURG LEWISBURG'S MLK DAY JR. CELEBRATION Photos by Jenny Harnish The streets of downtown Lewisburg filled with voices of hope on Jan. 20, as the community came together for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration. Following the four-block-long march, which featured young and old, holding hands and carrying banners and signs calling for peace and equality, participants joined other attendees inside the Lewisburg United Methodist Church for a free lunch as well as a program involving music, poetry readings, community speakers and winners of the student essay competition who read aloud their papers, which centered on the celebration’s theme — “Fairness, Unity, Equality: ‘Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.’” 68 ❖ SOUTH ❖ APRIL-MAY '19
