Green Bank Observatory

dio-quiet mountain valley in Pocahontas
County, the Green Bank Observatory is
an astronomy research facility and educa-
tion center that serves as the home to eight
radio telescopes, including the Robert C.
Byrd Green Bank Telescope, the world’s
largest, fully steerable radio telescope.
The observatory was founded in 1956
