SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION The University of Charleston Charleston’s University The University of Charleston (UC) has been the premier destination for private education in the Mountain State since 1888. With a current enrollment of nearly 2,500 students and a student-faculty ratio of 14:1, UC offers a personalized college experience at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. The university’s mission is to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living and community involvement. The school does this as it serves students from 45 states and 47 countries, making UC a truly global institution. The main campus in Charleston, a satellite campus in Beckley and an integrated online presence establishes UC as diverse and independent. The university offers a performance-based curriculum that focuses on specific objectives called Liberal Learning Outcomes (LLO). LLOs are essential abilities every student should develop, including critical thinking, effective communication, involved citizenship, continual creativity, empathetic involvement, ethical practice and purposeful inquiry. These principles are embedded in each UC program, equipping students to apply coursework to the real world and develop habits of lifelong learning. Among the most popular of the university’s 40 undergraduate majors are nursing, pre-med/pre-pharmacy, biology, education and business. UC has an established school of pharmacy and a highly competitive physician assistant program. It also has a large population of military students and has been named a military-friendly school for seven consecutive years by Victory Media. More than one-third of residential students are collegiate athletes competing at the national level in 19 sports. UC won the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship in men’s soccer. In 2017, the school welcomed its 26th president, Dr. Martin Roth, to the campus. Roth has embraced UC’s initiative, which emphasizes that the school has a role to play in the city of Charleston that’s just as visible and important as the Capital City’s prominent place in UC’s name. 2300 MacCorkle Avenue SE Charleston, WV 25304 1-800-995-4682 (GO UC) www.ucwv.edu
