West Virginia Northern Community College The chemical operator technology degree at West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) prepares students to be employed as operators in the chemical and oil and gas industries. Students learn the theory and operation of different types of plant equipment such as distillation columns, reactors, heat exchange units, piping and pumps and the storage or transmission of product. They obtain hands-on experience through the use of state-of-the art simulators in order to monitor and make changes in pressure, flow, temperature, material levels and other parameters. This program is currently offered on WVNCC’s New Martinsville campus and will be added to the Wheeling and Weirton campuses as needed. West Virginia State West Virginia University University Last spring, West Virginia State University began offering a fully online master of education in instructional leadership degree with an emphasis on the concepts of social justice, fairness and equity, making it the first of its kind in West Virginia. The curriculum creates opportunities for educators to expand their skills and advance into administrative positions while helping instructional leaders create pathways to success for students and staff members. The degree program can provide a leadership certificate upon completion of 18 hours of courses and certification testing if they already possess a master’s degree. For those seeking a master’s degree, this program can be completed with 36 hours. Each option begins with foundational courses and progresses to more advanced topics that impart the content and skills necessary for success. Projections are for licensure students to complete the program in one to two years and degree stream candidates to complete the program in two to four years. West Virginia University (WVU) is working to help transform the state’s business landscape through its quick response to the global mindset that products can be made available quickly to those who want them. WVU’s new global supply chain management program provides students with the strategic big picture of supply chain processes, such as fulfilling customer demand and tactical level activities of planning and executing purchasing, manufacturing and shipping. Students develop the knowledge and skills to lead supply chain improvement projects, function in supply chain teams and perform or lead supply chain activities with excellence. This program has responded to a high global demand for candidates with supply chain management knowledge and skills, which will be a good fit for jobs that can help the state of West Virginia attract manufacturing and other businesses.
