Awards Reception
As part of a new honors program created by West Virginia
Executive magazine and the West Virginia University (WVU)
College of Law, the inaugural class of Lawyers & Leaders was
inducted at a reception on August 17 in Morgantown.
Lawyers & Leaders was created to celebrate elite legal profes-
sionals who either practice in West Virginia or graduated from
the WVU College of Law and are making a positive impact on
the state and the nation, have dedicated their careers to serving
others and their communities and are leaving an indelible mark
on the legal profession.
The Lawyers & Leaders Class of 2017 included: Charles
DiSalvo, Woodrow A. Potesta Professor of Law at the WVU
College of Law; Joyce Dumbaugh Chernenko, judge for the
First Family Court Circuit of West Virginia; Sandra Henson
Kinney, attorney at Bailey & Glasser, LLP; Marilyn McClure-
Demers, vice president and associate general counsel for Na-
tionwide Mutual Insurance Company; Carlos Mendoza, U.S.
district judge for the Middle District of Florida; Todd Mount,

member at Shaffer & Shaffer, PLLC; Bruce Perrone, advocacy
support counsel for Legal Aid of West Virginia; Major General
Jeffrey Rockwell, deputy judge advocate general for the U.S. Air
Force; Ben Salango, member and owner of Preston & Salango,
PLLC; Susan Snowden, counsel for Jackson Kelly PLLC; Joanna
Tabit, judge for the Circuit Court of Kanawha County; Marc
Williams, office managing partner in the West Virginia Office
of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP; and Monté
Williams, attorney for Steptoe & Johnson PLLC. WVU College
of Law Class of 2017 graduates Jackson Butler and Elizabeth
Stryker were also honored.
Guests gathered to celebrate this inspirational group of pro-
fessionals who are invested in creating change and empowering
the clients they serve. The reception was a true celebration of
the exemplary leadership the Mountain State produces.
