Tyres, what does it all mean? Tyres on your 4wd need to be suitable for the purpose intended, which means tyres which are legal and good for the road may well be useless once you put a wheel off the bitumen. The situation can be even worse in mud or snow, so always ensure your tyres are up to the job. All tyres have treadwear indicators built in, a marker on the sidewall will give a clue as to where in the tread you should look for them. Once the markers are flush with the tread, the tyre is NO LONGER LEGAL and should be replaced…. You would be replacing this long before if the vehicle is to go off road. So what does the size mean?
