Tyres, what does it all mean?
Tyres on your 4wd need to be suitable for the purpose
intended, which means tyres which are legal and good for
the road may well be useless once you put a wheel off the
bitumen. The situation can be even worse in mud or snow,
so always ensure
your tyres are up
to the job.
All tyres have
treadwear
indicators built in,
a marker on the
sidewall will give a
clue as to where in
the tread you
should look for
them. Once the
markers are flush
with the tread, the tyre is NO LONGER LEGAL and should
be replaced…. You would be replacing this long before if
the vehicle is to go off road.
So what does the
size mean? Take
for example the
size 195/65r16
87V, the
information to the
left explains what
it all means.
