Fraser Island Hints n T ips If you’re considering going to Fraser Island I thought I would drop a few hints n tips’.          Inskip Point, 15 minute’s drive from Rainbow Beach (east of Gympie) to Hook Point; these barges generally run from 6am to 5.30pm (trip time is about 10 minutes, no bookings required) Rainbow beach via Gympie is 2 -3 hours north of Brisbane, traffic can hinder traffic times. You can travel to rainbow beach via beach from Noosa there is a small barge crossing then travel via the beach. Manta Ray Barges cost $120 return and can be purchased on the barge. The island is 123km long, 32km wide and covers an area of 166,038ha, so you need to allow plenty of time to explore and appreciate it. Vehicle, Camping permits required and need to be purchased prior to going on the island. Over-the-counter Camping and Vehicle Access Permit Booking Offices. Camping and vehicle access permits can be purchased online, by phone on 13 74 68 (13 QGOV), or by visiting ... Minjerribah Recreation Area. Permits can be purchased for Minjerribah Recreation Area only at the locations listed below. http://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/experiences/over-counter-permits.html - Aug 17 Fuel can be bought at Eurong, Kingfisher, Happy Valley, Orchard beach and Cathedral Beach Sept 17 = $2.20 p/litre There are many great camping places; Cathedral beach is a fav of mine, great showers fairly central to the great features of the island. Travel Hints           Tyre pressures – 18 psi Generally High range Good momentum when travelling between beach and in land tracks When heading towards oncoming vehicles on the beach use your indicator to show which direction you’re going e.g. - Left indicator to show you’ll go left of oncoming traffic. You have to watch Tide times particularly when going onto the Island or off via Hook Point/Inskip as the beach narrows to a point of not travelling; however there is an inland road running parallel to the beach, very slow. Plan your days to maximise getting to see all the island has to offer. Beware of fresh water creeks coming down onto the beach, they can cut big wash outs through the sand. Although towing is accepted on the island please consider others as towing increases the need for recoveries and affect other Island experience. If helping others out of bogs, please use your own gear, trust nobody’s recovery gear. Make sure you do an underbody wash at either Noosa or Rainbow beach. SALT KILLS CARS
