HOUSES AND PASTORAL CARE
BOARDING AT
THE HILL
We offer boarding to all pupils from year 5–13
providing the option to board on a weekly or
flexi basis. The Hill can accommodate up to 120
pupils over five floors, with shared bedrooms
for up to four pupils for our youngest boarders,
double rooms for senior boarders and single
rooms with en-suite bathrooms for IB boarders.
Each room is designed and furnished to ensure
all boarders are comfortable and have adequate
space to work and relax supplemented by
multiple common rooms.
Flexi boarding provides a flexible option allowing
pupils to board as and when desired. Pupils
can choose to board up to six nights a week
with flexi boarding. Most of our flexi boarders
stay on nights when they have Academy
commitments, sporting fixtures, during revision
periods or simply to give boarding a try. Flexi
boarding offers a helpful alternative to parents
when work commitments take them away from
home.
For most weekly boarders, our week will start
on Sunday night, drop off is from 7:00pm.
Arriving on Sunday night allows our boarders
time to prepare for the week and settle back
into their rooms. Weekly boarders will then stay
for the rest of the week and have the option to
go home at the end of the school day on Friday
or stay until Saturday morning.

DAILY ROUTINE
7:00am–8:10am
All boarders are woken at 7:10am, with
proactive staff getting them up and making sure
that all laundry/school books are taken down.
Breakfast is served from 7:45am, which consists
of a selection of Chinese, English and continental
items. All boarders are addressed for the day
and dismissed.
8:10am–4:45pm
All boarders will go through their school day
as any other pupil would, attending lessons and
CCAs. Lunch is included within the boarding fee,
and pupils will meet back in the boarding houses
at 4:45 pm.
4:45pm–5:45pm
This space is free time for the boarders, to go to
their rooms and socialise, participate in sports,
or do any prep work. Pupils with academies are
permitted to go to their academy, and will meet
back for dinner.
5:45pm–7:00pm
House tutors and an intern will supervise prep
time in the library for all boarders. This gives
the pupils time to complete prep work, as
well as doing extra reading for their subjects.
IB boarders can choose to come to prep
in the library or work independently. Many
choose to come and are often found working
collaboratively in one of the rooms in the library
or supporting younger boarders.
7:00pm–7:40pm
Dinner is served in the main canteen, and all
pupils are required to eat a full meal. Tuesdays
will be reserved for a more ‘family style’ dinner,
with pupils seated at two tables with food
served at the table.
7:40pm–8:40pm
Organised activities are run by the interns and
house tutors. We encourage all boarders to
participate in activities and monitor participation
throughout the week. Boarders can choose to
take advantage of the music rooms during this
time to practice.
8:40pm–9:00pm
Call over happens at 8:40pm, where an evening
register is taken and any notices are handed
out for the next day. Pupils are sent upstairs to
shower and get ready for bed, or collect any
laundry for the next day. All pupils must be in
their own rooms by 9:00pm.
9:00pm–10:00pm
We stagger bed times at the Hill by year group.
For Prep boarders, lights will be out at 9:15pm;
year 9 lights go out at 9:30pm; and years 10
and up will be allowed to stay up until 10:00pm,
when all lights will be turned off in the corridors.
Corridors are monitored in the evenings to
make sure that all pupils are in their rooms and
not up and about.
