MUSIC TUITION
Wellington has an excellent team of visiting
music tutors offering individual tuition on
instruments such as violin, viola, cello, flute,
oboe, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone,
drum kit, guitar (classical, electric and bass) and
piano. We also offer singing lessons and may be
able to accommodate tuition on other musical
instruments upon request.
The cost of instrument lessons is currently
3,500 RMB for 10 lessons of 40 minutes each.
Lessons are timetabled during the school day
on a rotating basis, with pupils usually moving
forward to a different time in the tutor’s
timetable every week. Instrument lessons
are offered subject to a tutor’s availability,
full payment of tuition fees and receipt of a
signed instrumental tuition agreement form.
Instrument lessons are offered to pupils in
year 3 and above.

In addition to the private music tuition, many
music activities are offered through our CCA
programme. Some groups are aimed specifically
at pupils in either the Prep or Senior Schools,
whilst other groups are open to pupils across
the two schools. Pupils can join choirs and
instrument ensembles from year 3 with a
separate programme of activities being offered
to pupils in year 2 and below.
Whilst there is no specific audition required
to join a music ensemble, we do ask that pupils
taking part in instrumental ensemble (e.g. string
ensemble or wind ensemble) be currently having
lessons on the instrument that they are playing,
as rehearsals are not group lessons. Many other
music activities are open to pupils who do not
play an instrument (e.g. choirs, drumming group,
samba band, electronic music production and
GarageBand club).
