Humble Beginnings From a home-based tailor shop to five-standing branches, Gardini’s, humble beginnings can be traced with the Canlas family’s passion for tailoring. Emmanuel Canlas Sr. passed on his passion, knowledge and skills to his children. Three of his children ventured in the couture business. And it was Emmanuel Canlas Jr. who became the brainchild of the well- loved rental shop, Gardini. The shop started as a quaint Gardini Fashion Necktie Center Fashion in downtown Manila in 1967. While necktie were in vogue that time, Gardini almost monopolized the supply of cravats demanded by various department store and retail establishments in Manila and neighboring commercial areas. However during the 70s, Filipinos opted for the new trend of wearing the conventional polo barong. Since it’s a short sleeves version of the national costume, the polo barong can be worn without a necktie; thus, the demand for neck wear dwindled. Despite the changes in men’s fashion, Gardini used this opportunity to better serve the client’s demands through diversifying into tailoring. Since then, Gardini has been known for making top quality suits, coats, tuxedo for weddings. Years later, they became the top choice for rental for formal events, weddings, debuts, company events awardings, JS prom and university parties. For forty years and counting, Gardini has become a guaranteed one-stop shop for men’s wear requirements.
