License in Tagaytay City
Licensing Officer Marie Ferma details the
requirements in applying for a marriage license
in Tagaytay City.
Marriage License Norms
More or less, the requirements to get a marriage license are similar in different
parts of the Philippines.
Original birth certificates and/or baptismal certificates will be asked of the
couple, along with information about their parents or guardians. The marriage
contract of the parents may also be requested. Fees will be collected for
your application and for the marriage license, along with proof of
attendance in marriage counselling and/or a seminar.
Foreigners will be requested to obtain a Legal Capacity to Contract
Marriage from their respective embassies.
What is uniquely Tagaytay’s is their Character First seminar and
Tree-Planting Activity, both strictly demanded from couples
interested to get wed in the city.
Tagaytay Requirements
Marie Ferma jotted down their requirements with the
corresponding fees:
• Application Fee P100
• Family Planning P100
• Marriage Councelling & Character Siminar P100
• Marriage License P202

She narrated that the tree-planting activity has been in practice for a
long time. In fact, couples used to just plant anywhere. In recent years,
a lot was already allotted especially for this. One of the usual seedlings
they plant are Arocaria trees.
Ten Days
“Once everything is complete”, says Maria, “they will wait for 10 days before
the license is released.” She emphasizes, “we cannot rush this.”
Parents’ Consent and Advice
For individuals below 21 years of age, the parents’ consent is a must. While,
individuals from 21 to 25 are asked for the Parents’ Advice. If there are no
signatures form the parents, they cannot proceed immediately. She shares,
“some parents really run after us, and we don’t want that.”
