Chesapeake Bay TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load)
_______________________________________________________________
What is a TMDL:
• Maximum amount of pollution a water body
can receive and still meet water quality
standards
The Bay TMDL:
• Developed by EPA
• Sets waste load allocations for not only
permitted point sources but also load
allocations for non-point sources, like
agricultural and urban runoff
• Sets backstop measures and a federal
timeline for implementing allocations
• Reserves the authority to revise the
allocations for the EPA itself
