European Union: Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) ______________________________________________________________ • Companies have the responsibility of collecting information on the properties and the uses of substances that they manufacture or import at/or above 1 tonne per year • Companies have to make an assessment of the hazards and potential risks presented by the substance • Companies must obtain authorization for specified uses of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) • Registration deadlines for most European EU Member States are the same as for the whole EU • Extended deadlines apply to countries that recently joined the EU, for example Croatia • By 1 July 2014 companies must register substances manufactured or imported into EU in quantities over 100 tonnes • By 31 May 2018 companies must register substances in quantities over 1 tonne per year ©2014 Enhesa.
