T
he faculty, staff, and students of Pamplin College are deeply
enmeshed in the life of our hometown. Our social work students
are doing their field placements in nonprofit agencies all over
Augusta. Our art faculty are engaged in the public art master plan for the
city. Students from the Communication Department have internships in
every local news outlet in Augusta. Our music faculty perform with the
Augusta Symphony and the Augusta Choral Society. Everywhere you look,
you see someone in a Pamplin T-shirt.
We decided to highlight Pamplin’s community engagement in this issue
of the news magazine, taking our stories to the streets and neighborhoods
where we work, live, and play (I live on the Great Indian Trading Path,

now known as McDowell Street). Augusta is growing and changing
dramatically, as we’ve become the cyber-center of Georgia, as Fort
Gordon’s expansion has fueled more growth in Richmond County, and
as Broad Street has blossomed with new restaurants, bars, and hotels.
Pamplin is matching that vibrancy, stride for stride. In this issue of
#WeArePamplin, read about how our MPA students write grant proposals
on behalf of local nonprofits, and about the connection between Pamplin
and Le Chat Noir. Meet some alumni who have built lives and careers
right here at home.
In short, this issue places Pamplin College squarely in the center of our
community. We hope you enjoy the visit!
