How to Wear

Tuxedo

37

The Jacket

The tuxedo jacket is different to a regular blazer. It must have wide, peaked and satin lapels. The jacket can be worn with or without a pocket square, depending on one's choice, however if you are wearing one, make sure it is white. With a black tuxedo, coloured or patterned pocket squares would just look odd as they will unbalance the formal look of the outfit.

The Trouser

The main difference with the trousers in a tuxedo is the fact that they should have the satin stripe going down the sides and they shouldn't have any belt loops. This is because belts should not be worn with a tuxedo. Instead, wear suspenders when

needed.

The Shirt

Tuxedo shirts can vary. Some are pleated, some are plain. Most of the time tuxedo shirts are worn with studs replacing the first four buttons. These studs are often black and they look similar to cufflinks, only smaller. The important thing with tuxedo shirts is that they should have French cuffs.

The Bow-Tie

Not too big, not too small either. Use parts of your outfit as references to measure the size of the bow-tie. Keep the colour of the bow-tie similar to the rest of the suit.
