T

he three piece suit consists of, well, three pieces: The jacket, the trouser and the vest or

waistcoat.

Three Piece

The addition of the waistcoat to the suit has not only served as a way to differentiate it from plain suits, but has broaden the range of possibilities the outfit has to offer.

Take colour as an example: the three piece suit as a whole is an outfit that can quickly catch one's attention and stand out. However, you can make it less or more striking depending on the colour. Because it is a formal outfit, darker colours such as navy, charcoal and brown are the ones which are mainly worn.

The contrast between waistcoat and suit can also help define the style of the outfit. Go for a safer and cleaner option by matching both waistcoat and suit colours, as seen in the picture to the right, or opt for a contrast in colour and pattern garments.
