tH # 78 APRIL 18 , 2016 was Dr. Fabiana Cecchini from Texas A&M University with her students from College Station. Ultimately the panels linked to migration reminded the audience that there are global networks of migration research and policy studies, knowledgeable people, resources, and technologies which were not available before. These global networks can and should foster international collaborative efforts to find viable solutions to the complicated and urgent problems surrounding migration today. An important segment of the Conference featured the work of young investigators, whose section inaugurated the opening day of the Conference. Presentations featured business startup accelerator insight from Austin (Giacomo Ghilardo), DNA molecular simulation (Lorenzo Boninsegna) and chromatin folding model (Michele Di Pierro) from Rice University, genetics of neurodegeneration from Baylor College of Medicine (Alberto Di Ronza), and simulation exploration (Alberto Falcone) and climate change (Simone Lolli) from NASA. Young investigators also included five doctoral candidates (Mauro Montalbano, Claudia Marino, Filippa Lo Cascio, Emanuele Mocciaro e Salvo Saieva) and two post-doctorals (Alberto Fucarino e Michela Marcatti) enrolled in the International Ph.D. Program in Biomedicine and Neuroscience co-sponsored by the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, TX, and the University of Palermo. The program has been created thanks to the indefatigable Luca Cicalese who recently received a Ph.D. Honoris Causa in Biomedicine and Neuroscience from the University of Palermo. The keynote speaker for the Physics session was Dr. Alberto Devoto, a distinguished academician from the University of Cagliari who has extensive experience in international research and collaborations thanks to his work at the Italian Embassy in Washington. He presented a fascinating lecture titled “The DarkSide Collaboration and the Search for Dark Matter” highlighting how Italy is at the forefront of research for particle physics.
