ETS introduced me to riders who lived close to me and also liked to trail ride. This was a perfect situation so I no longer had to travel up to 4 hours just to simply ride with my friends. We started going to more ETS rides together and it became a fun weekend away with friends. We planned day trips, camping trips, and Parelli play days. I would go to as many ETS events as I possibly could. Before I knew it, it was close to the end of the year and I was informed that I was in first place in my region!! I couldn’t believe it; something I was doing for fun and to be with my new friends; I somehow obtained first in the advanced category.

Unbeknownst to me, I also

found out that I was currently ranked within the top 10 in the nation for the advanced category!

With the encouragement of my friends, I traveled to Texas for one last event of the year in hopes of making a move to be in the top 5 in the nation and win a buckle. Although I was unable to accomplish this goal, I did move into 6th place in the nation without even trying. Instead, I had fun, did my best, and supported my goal of taking my horse on trail rides. I once again met some wonderful people who I hope to ride with again.

ETS became a year of new friends, new trails, new accomplishments, and most of all memorable. I was able to take my horse on trails, gain his confidence with obstacles and scary palmetto bushes that might eat him; he began to trust me as his leader. All of this while keeping his dignity and not pushing him over the edge. Although we still have goals to achieve, Equine Trail Sports has helped us in so many different aspects of riding, self-confidence, new friendships, and remembering what fun competition is about. Here is to the upcoming year with ETS!
