States for the five-day Cross-National WE Camp and three-
day, four-phase Cross-National WE Cup being held at the
Oregon Horse Center in Eugene, Oregon July 8-15.
Contributing to the success of such ventures is the
willingness of Working Equitation fans to share their love
of the sport—as well as their horses—with overseas guests.
At the July event, Canadian Heidi Eijgel is bringing Lili
Chantecler, a Canadian Horse mare owned by Windy
Coulee Canadians, to share with Wisconsin WE United
member Kris Blacklock. Morgan Wagner is sharing her
Andalusian stallion Sephiroth with Australian Michael
Godding. Ellen Chappell is sharing her Lipizzan mare Terra-
Blanca with Australian youth rider Lily Godding. Ashley
Smith is sharing her Lusitano gelding Delirio DC with
Australian Mark Mason. Kristina Eckert is sharing her
warmblood mare Shall We Dance with New Zealand rider
Susan Tulloch. Emily Elias is sharing her Haflinger gelding
Lieben with Australian Robyn Axelrad and her warmblood
gelding Three Engardes with Australian Cheryl Miller. Julie
Alonzo is sharing her Andalusian mare CDC Memoria with
Australian Nadine O’Sullivan. Becca Cruden is sharing her
Quarter Horse mare Shannon’s Gold Remedy with
Australian youth Lucy Campbell, and Washington trainer
Adrienne Ray is sharing her Mustang gelding Beam Me Up
Scotty with Australian Sandy Langsford.
We’re already looking forward to the 2019 Cross-National
Cup, which will be held in Alberta, Canada; the 2020 event,
which will be held in New South Wales, Australia; and
hoping to bring the Cross-National Cup to New Zealand in
2021.
As Australian Mark Mason recently remarked, “I never
would have dreamed that my interest in Working Equitation
would have encouraged me to see the world, but it sure
looks to be happening.”
His wife Jenny chimed in: “Mark has never had much
interest in traveling before, but with the warm welcome
we’ve received and how much fun we had at the WE United
competitions in America last year, and with our US friends
here at Stroud this year, we are making plans to come to
the US for both the Cross-National Cup in July and the
Andalusian World Cup in September this year, and we’re
already looking forward to visiting Canada for the first time
in 2019.”
All things considered, it’s certainly not a bad way to come
up with vacation plans in far-flung places!
