Looking for the perfect place to get away and relax? Eagle Ranch Resort, with close to 1,000 acres of wooded and hilly terrain, is located in the Northern Ozarks of Missouri in a town called Collins. Trails are well marked and maps are easy to follow. It has cabins, spacious covered stalls, a covered pavilion, a beautiful shower house and electrical sites as well as primitive camping. The owners, Jerry and Cheryl Hennings and their staff roll out the red carpet for every guest. They meet you at your trailer to clean it out, offer stall cleaning every day, and give coupons for water, ice and even firewood that will be delivered to your campsite. The facility is well marked with easy to pull in campsites. Jerry and Cheryl have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable including simple things like ample water hoses to make filling water buckets for your equine easy. They truly want to make your vacation relaxing for you.

Eagle Ranch Resort was the location of the 2017 North American Saddle Mule Association Versatility Trail Program Missouri Trail Ride, hosted by Pete and Roberta Shiflett of Independence Missouri. They too rolled out the red carpet to make everyone welcome. It was a pleasant surprise to pull in on Friday and be greeted with a “Welcome NASMA VTP Riders” sign designed by the owner, Cheryl. Roberta who continued to make everyone feel welcome with the meet and greet at 7pm under the nice covered pavilion. VTP Committee Member Sherri Pledger assisted Roberta with drawing for the door prizes. A great group of riders came from Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and of course Missouri.

On Saturday, Pete and Roberta took out a large group of riders to see the highlights, including moon rock and lion rock. The privately-owned lake includes a great boat dock and is a wonderful way to spend the day dipping a hook in the water. No fishing license is required since it is on private land and privately owned. The lake is also home to some beaver but we didn’t catch a glimpse of them that weekend. I attempted to capture some pictures of the scenic lake, but the pictures just don't do it justice. Scottish Highland cattle and mini donkeys are always adorable and are a great part of the scenery at Eagle Ranch Resort.
