HPAF has many more horses with the potential to be amazing partners for an adopter. All of the horses have the benefit of a Parelli foundation and most are started under saddle. If you are looking for a new trail partner, go to the HPAF web site and meet the horses waiting for someone to give them a home.

Like most non profits, Horse Protection Association of Florida needs your help. We receive no state or federal funding and exist solely on donations and volunteers. If you live near Micanopy, Florida consider donating some of your time. There are numerous volunteer opportunities available where one can witness first hand, the rewarding experience of the horse and human bond. If you are unable to volunteer, consider making a donation. The cost of feed and hay is HPAF’s biggest expense with training and retraining a close second. HPAF gladly accepts monetary donations of any size and offers numerous ways to become more involved with helping the horses. You can become a member, sponsor a horse, leave a legacy for the horses or purchase items from the wish list. Music (above) was rescued April 19th, 2016 with the Levy County Sheriff's Office. He was weak the first few days but had a good appetite. The main problem is when they lie down and are not strong enough to stand up. He struggled but was able to get up on his own. All emaciated horses go on ranitidine first thing which helps keep them from colicing. We weighed Music nine days after he came in and he had gained 98 lbs. His owner has been charged with felony animal cruelty, $50,000. bond.

In April 2016 Lex and Kim put on a moving demonstration at the Horses Helping Horses fund raiser for HPAF at Canterbury Equestrian Showplace in Newberry Florida. It was breathtaking to watch their ballet together. At liberty Lex did whatever Kim asked for, side passes, circles, backing, slowly jogging like a western pleasure horse, cantering, changing direction, jumping, halting and more. All at liberty, with no halter, line or attachment whatsoever, Lex would mirror Kim. As Kim took two canter strides herself, Lex did the same, coming back to the walk or halt seamlessly mirroring Kim’s movements. Riding bridless for the first time away from home, Lex was just as flawless as he was in his liberty performance. Doing every movement Kim asked for including slow canters with a perfect halt when Kim asked for one with her seat. It was amazing and inspiring to watch them together. No one could ever guess what an out of control panicker Lex used to be.
