Bubbles & Muffit

In Loving Memory

By Sue Chapman, President of Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue

Bubbles escaped the kill lot by pretending to be a mini donkey and followed a herd of them onto the freedom trailer bound for Becky’s Hope. His touching story went viral, spreading from Texas to Japan, Sri Lanka to the UK. Bubbles became a shining symbol that senior horses are a gift. His mission of being kind to all animals became a movement amongst his followers.

The stories of rescues poured into Becky's Hope after the

story of Bubbles went viral.

It was a normal morning when Bubbles was eating his

breakfast and he suffered a massive stroke and died in the

arms of the staff that loved him. It was an unexpected,

absolutely heartbreaking loss. Bubbles had tens of

thousands of followers from all over the world who upon

learning of his death were also heartbroken. However,

nobody was hit as hard by his loss than Bubbles' love, Muffit.

Muffit, a BLM Mustang was rescued from the severe flooding

in Austin, Texas in 2012. She had been abandoned in a

pasture, left for years to care for herself alone. The two senior

horses had lived lives full of disappointment and neglect but

once they had found each other at Becky's Hope, they were

inseparable. Horses bond so deeply and their love so strong

that the day Bubbles died, Muffit laid down and refused to

leave his side. The staff did everything they could to

encourage Muffit to get up and eat, to move around and try

to go on despite their own broken hearts. It was only 5 days

later that Muffit died of what the vet called, a broken heart.

The story of Bubbles & Muffit while so sad, is a

testament to how animals feel love, bond

strongly and feel grief so deeply.

Bubbles was a gift to all of us at Becky’s Hope. To honor his

memory, we will be creating a program that offers a “Gift of

Life”, a scholarship in a sense, to a senior horse allowing them

to live out their days here with us. There are so many

wonderful senior horses, like Bubbles, just waiting to be

rescued. In their memory, Becky’s Hope will continue to fight

to rescue senior animals and find them loving forever homes. Our hope is to have a special home for "Bubbles’ Old Friends”.

Bubbles followers continue to follow his Facebook page and support senior horses that will be rescued in their memory. At Becky’s Hope it costs us approximately $2,500 a year to care for a senior horse for the remainder of their life. People can donate to help offer a Gift of Life to "Bubbles’ Old Friends"

In a world where you can choose to be anything, choose to be kind like Bubbles.
