Michel Chikwanine was born in 1990 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He grew while the Great African War was happening. His father was a human rights activist in Congo which was the reason why he was tortured and killed, the worst thing is that he was killed in front of Michel. But before he died he told Michel “Always know that great men and great women are not described by their money or their success but rather by what they do for other people.” that stuck with Michel for the rest of his life. Without mercy the terrorist forced him to watch the rape of his mother and 2 sisters. At 11 he left Congo as a refugee and moved to Canada where he later on became a speaker for Me To We. He has spoken in front of over 100,000 people where he told them about the story of how he was forced to kill his own best friend. After school rebels came to his school and they drugged Michel and his friends. They cut slits on their wrist and put cocaine and gunpowder. They gave him a gun and started telling him to shoot and he did. When he opened his blindfold he found his best friend. His best friend Kevin lifeless on the ground. That must have been so traumatizing, every time I hear about that story I always feel so blessed and thankful. He really is a strong person.
