Whether you have a mother or not, Mother’s Day was created to remind us to appreciate that very special person who initially gave us life and reminds us of others who also nurture our lives in motherly ways. On this day we celebrate not only our own mothers, but other motherly role models in our world that also inspire us and teach us lessons like only a mother could. Mother’s Day was made official by the US Congress in 1914, after Anna Jarvis, pushed to make it an annual celebration to honor all mothers. The official flower that represents this day is carnations-- living mothers being giving colorful ones and deceased mothers, given white carnations.
