J
osé Manuel de Abreu (BA
LLB) – Founder and managing
partner of De Abreu and Cohen,
obtained his BA LLB degree
from the University of Cape
Town. After doing his articles he was
admitted as an attorney in 1991 and has
since been practicing as an attorney.
Husband and father of three, José is
passionate about family values and
helping others achieve their dreams.
Born from humble beginnings in
Madeira, southwest of Portugal, José
realised at a young age that the only way
to achieve your goals is by hard work, a
positive mind-set and faith.
José says that through a favourable
chain of events he was able to buy his
first vacant stand and built his first home
in West beach. “I fell in love with the
area and what it has to offer,” he says.
“My three children have attended local
schools and my family is heavily involved
in the community.”
“At an early age I had to assist in the
family business. I was the one who was
fortunate enough to be sent to university
and I have always strived to be the best
at what I set my mind to. When the
opportunity arose to join RE/MAX of
Southern Africa as a Broker/Owner, I
saw it as a challenge and avenue I would
like to explore as I had a keen interest in
property,” says José. He adds that it’s a
proven fact that with time property gives
one of the best returns on investment
that an investor or man on the street can
benefit from - there are no barriers when
it comes to property investment.
The ups and downs can be extreme, but
one has to have the perseverance to
succeed and then be thankful and show
gratitude for one’s success,” he says. “One
of my most important achievements has
been to see the personal growth and
success of our agents, many of whom
have been with us for a great number
of years. Our aim is to provide a happy
working environment to help them
achieve their goals. My wish is to see
RE/MAX Property Associates continue
growing from strength to strength over
the next 20 years and prepare for the
next generation to succeed.”
According to José, RE/MAX and working
in the real estate industry has given him a
totally different view of the challenges of
being a real estate agent. “From a legal
background it’s difficult to understand
what it takes to be successful in the
property market.”
