My name is Stephanie LaBonte and Empowered Girls Rise is a passion project of mine . As a middle and high school teacher and coach , I have observed many girls being disrespectful and cruel to one another in school and on social media . Social media allows them to take being ‘ mean ’ to the next level . This , in turn , spills over into the classroom making many girls feel insecure , distracted , and unsafe . I began my first empowerment rally a few years ago with the purpose of inspiring and nurturing girls to be kind and compassionate to themselves and one another . There are also the benefits of giving them a sense of community within the school and outside of school with mentors and community members participating and sharing their experiences . I hope this program impacts girls worldwide but especially my two little girls , Hailee and Aubrey , so they can grow up feeling loved , encouraged , and motivated to chase their dreams .
Empowered Girls Rise ’ s mission is to nurture self-respect , confidence , and purpose in girls ages 11-25 through education , personal development , mentorship , and community . We do this is through a powerful 4-hour event that includes 2 hour long hands on workshops run by presenters that focus on many relevant ideas such as mindfulness , creating a purpose , careers in STEM , beauty , photography , teaching , law , etc ., building self-esteem , goal setting , teamwork , culture , safety , public speaking , theatre and the list goes on . A keynote speaker and a panel discussion follow the workshops . The final piece is a ‘ power hour ’ or networking event where girls can interact and connect one-on-one to the presenters and any other members of the community that wish to attend , but not present . Light refreshments are provided during that time . At the end of the event , girls will receive a memento of the day to make lasting memories for years to come .
