If you ever happen to eat at Shutters, check out the paintings displayed. One of
the wooden shutters paintings contains a Hidden Mickey disguised as a cloud in
the sky!
CORONADO SPRINGS
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort was named for Francisco Vasquez de
Coronado, a 16th-century Spanish explorer. In 1540, he set sail for the New
World in search of the Seven Cities of Cibola and their fabled riches of gold. He
never found the legendary riches, but members of his group became the first
Europeans to reach the Grand Canyon.
Disney's Coronado Springs' lobby and reception areas are built around La Fuente
de las Palomas, a spring-fed fountain which supplied the hacienda with cool
drinking water on the hottest days. It bubbles up from a Spanish urn surrounded
by colorful tiles in blue, green and orange-red under a domed ceiling filled with
hand-painted images of white clouds and doves flying through a blue sky.
The main pool, at Coronado Springs, features not only a Mayan ruin but
hieroglyphics as décor around the area. Take a closer look and you may find some
Hidden Mickeys!
Coronado Springs’ quiet pools are the first on property to use bromine rather than
chlorine.
Remember, when you’re at a Moderate Resort, be sure to pay attention to all the detail
that goes into the theming for each resort… or at the very least, stop and smell the
flowers!
