The 51-foot sea serpent slide at the Doubloon Lagoon pool is called Scales. This name, invented by Greg Ehrbar, is a fun reference to the song “Scales and Arpeggios” from The Aristocats. The project architects were Fugleberg Koch Architects of Winter Park, FL, in collaboration with Disney Development Co. These architects were also responsible for the design of Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Old Key West Resort. CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT The food court, at Caribbean Beach, is designed to look like an outdoor market. The two-story interior walls in the food court are building facades with balconies, shutt ered windows and thatched roofs. Looking for a little adventure outside? Pay close attention to the sand on the beach and you might find some concrete alligators and turtles hidden in the sand and on the island. The Old Port Royale pool is themed after a Spanish fortress. Port Royale is also the setting for both the movie and the Magic Kingdom theme park attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean. PHOTO BY LAURIE SAPP
