CITA provides a suite of services, delivered by highly experienced volunteers, to enable charities to use technology to improve their effectiveness. To get an idea of how CITA volunteers can help a small charity please read ahead on how volunteer Ian Rogers helped Twinkle House. Twinkle House is a charity that provides a free sensory-based personalised support service for children and young people with Disabilities and A dditional Needs living in the North West of England. The aim of the Charity is to improve the mental health and well-being and quality of life of children and young people by offering practical and emotional support to help increase their resilience and ability to cope with minor difficulties before they worsen. They also provide emotional support, information and advice to their families/carers. Twinkle House empower families to bring about positive change in their own lives by becoming more able to self-support. The skills they learn at Twinkle House will be for life and may also be passed on to other family members, siblings and wider family and friend network. CITA volunteer Ian Rogers advised the charity to look into a free Office 365 licence which could reduce the need for onsite hardware and allow staff to work from home if required. He also suggested using Skype as a means of communicating with some of the clients who had issues with face to face contact, and signposted forums where the Charity could put call outs to schools and other local organisations who may be clearing out their hardware – a great way to get good spec machines for free! J Boardman, CEO, Twinkle House said, “CITA IT Help for Charities is an invaluable support service for small organisations like ours who struggle with few resources and often not having the expertise in-house to cope with the ever changing world of IT. Twinkle House received excellent, clear and useful information regarding improving our IT that will aid our Charity in making better decisions and getting help in the future. I wholeheartedly recommend CITA IT Help for charities to other organisations.” If you would like to find out more about volunteering with CITA please see charityithelp.org.uk/ for-volunteers or get in touch with Tracey Phillipson, CITA Programme Manager, on: 020 3871 0256 contact@charityit help.org.uk
