THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGISTS
Last Year’s Grant-Giving
The following grants were awarded by the Charitable
Operations (ChOps) Committee for the financial year 2015:
Thames Reach: iReach Project
£17,800
Gresham College: More effective IT education
£11,300
Sponsored by a Member – if we feel that a
WCIT Member will make sure that our grant will
be well exploited, this is a positive factor.
Good execution plan – evidence of the
expected benefit, proven project management
and how the money will be spent is essential.
AbilityNet: iT4C & Tech4Good Awards
£9,990
Manor Green School: Eyegaze
£9,142
Lifelites
£5,250
Bristol Braille Technology: Multi-Line Braille e-reader
£5,000
It’s not just a tick-box exercise, we’re applying our
wide-ranged set of professional skills to assess the
likelihood of successful impacts and we’re always
thinking about what our donors would consider
value for money. Of course, the Charity has finite
resources and we cannot fund all applications.
Applications do compete from time to time.

“Funding is always a challenge within a charity however with
the kind donation from the WCIT Charity we were able last year
to purchase a licence for Onefile enabling learners to access
their portfolios when and wherever they needed to complete
their Apprenticeship NVQ Level 2 and Level 3, designed to
enable young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds
and aged 18-25, to gain recognised qualifications whilst
receiving training and experience relevant for employment in
the outdoor industry.
In the first year the software supported 10 apprentices who all
successfully completed their apprenticeship and we and the
young people who have used Onefile are hugely grateful to
WCIT as it made a significant difference to how they engaged
with their portfolio work, even for those who normally struggle
with written work.”
Overall Grant Giving: £104,076
