MONITOR EDUCATION: OUR PARTNER SCHOOLS Lilian Baylis Technology School Tom Ilube presents on Creating Your Own Start-Up Company W CIT Liveryman George Kalorkoti, a WCIT sponsored LBTS Governor, introduced fellow WCIT Liveryman Tom Ilube when he spoke to some 150 sixteen to eighteen year old LBTS 6th Form students in October. This was the fourth in a series of talks initiated by the our sponsor governors and WCIT since 2013. Tom started with a slide of photos of himself through the years, including one from his younger days, that would have won most Jimi Hendrix look-alike contests, and summarised his ‘life journey’ as ‘From McDonalds to Maserati’. He had the students’ undivided attention for the rest of his talk… Tom Ilube captivating the students at LBTS Tom Ilube spent time with the students after his presentation to answer further questions Tom went on to set out six steps for creating a start-up company, starting with ‘Think of an idea’ and ending with ‘Lead from the front’. He also talked about his planned flight into space on Virgin Galactic, although this is not due for a couple of years… There were far more questions than there was time to answer them, ranging from “If I send you an idea for a start-up will you back me?” (Answer: “No, but I’ll tell you if I think it’s a good idea”) to “How much did it cost you for your booking into space?” (Answer: “£250,000”) After the event Tom expressed to us, "I always find it inspiring to speak to LBTS students. They are fizzing with ideas and questions and I leave feeling excited about the future. I probably get more out of it than they do to be honest" Contributed by George Kalorkoti, WCIT Liveryman and Chair of LBTS Governors Photos by: LBTS LBTS Exam Results O nce again Lilian Baylis Technology School (LBTS) students achieve ^
