A popular event is the annual
Christmas party for the children of
members. Little ones up to 10 years
old enjoy an afternoon of holiday
festivities, complete with music and
entertainment.
“This year, we had a magician. Last
year, we had Jolie Della Valle, who
gave a musical, interactive perform-
ance of her book, Ants in the Pants,”
she says. “The party i s topped off
with a visit from Santa, who meets
with each child and presents them
with an early Christmas gift. For the
adult crowd, the auxiliary hosts an
annual Ugly Christmas Sweater
Party for members and spouses –
for fellowship and relaxation from
the holiday hustle and bustle.”
In addition to fun and fundraising,
the auxiliary is an integral part of
many members’ lives.
“After a 20-year career in the
Army as a firefighter, we moved to

New Jersey and my husband joined
Pequannock Engine Co 2. This
inspired me to join the Ladies
Auxiliary and I have been a member
for 10 years,” Snook says. “I love
being a part of our firehouse family
and, eventually, I was nominated and
elected to the office of president. We
have a small, but mighty, group who
work well together during our events
and times when we provide support
during emergencies.”
As for the future of the auxiliary
and its members, Snook assures,
“The Ladies Auxiliary will continue
to provide ongoing support.”
She admits that they hope they’re
not needed – meaning there are no
long-term emergencies – “we are
ready to activate when called by
Co. 2.” ■
