DESTANNY GENCARELLI,
13, of Pequannock is one of the top pony
jumpers in the New Jersey, New York and
Pennsylvania district. She competes in the
low child/adult jumpers category, which
involves leaping over fences set at 3 feet,
3 inches, or shorter. Competitors navigate
a course with several barriers and are
judged by how fast, and cleanly, they finish
the course. After winning her district’s
United States Equestrian Federation Grand
Champion competition last year and two
state titles, Gencarelli is hoping for the
opportunity to compete in the Kentucky
National Pony Jumpers finals in August.
