Forget Resolutions , Go For Gratitude Instead

Each January , roughly one in three Americans resolve to better themselves in some way . A much smaller percentage of people actually make good on those resolutions . While about 75 % of people stick to their goals for at least a week , less than half ( 46 %) are still on target six months later , a 2002 study found .
It ’ s hard to keep up the enthusiasm months after you ’ ve swept up the confetti , but it ’ s not impossible . This year , instead of focusing on things we don ’ t have , why not focus on what we do ?
If you want to make real , lifelong shifts in your life this year , go for gratitude .
Gratitude is a mental tool that we use to remind ourselves of the good things in our life . When you are having a bad day , week or month , chances are you still have something to be grateful for in life . You just need to be mindful and write down the good things .
Practicing gratitude and writing it down each day will ultimately change your life Kim Angeli of Grateful Box believes . She says , “ living a life filled with gratitude can make you happier and healthy . On average , grateful people are 10 % less likely to suffer from diseases brought on by stress , have 12 % lower blood pressure and live 7 years longer .”

Angeli started Grateful Box ( a Waxhaw-based business ) after spending 15 years in the insurance business . This is where the idea of gratitude was born . Angeli ’ s purpose is to use her influence and enthusiasm to teach gratitude and appreciation around the world . Angeli ’ s vision is to help people connect and appreciate one another and build relationships outside of social media . When they do so , they develop lifelong relationships beyond the transaction .
The Grateful Box is a physical reminder to practice being grateful on a daily basis . The box is a reminder that there is hope in a note . A note of gratitude , a note to thank someone , a note to celebrate a birthday , life change or “ just because .”
Not sure where to begin ? Take one small step and simply jot down one thing that you are grateful for each day . When we take time each day to express gratitude , we begin to think more positively and reduce negative thoughts . Gratitude gives us another way to look at life and focus on the positive . So often people focus on the negative and practicing gratitude will help you unlearn negative thinking .
By expressing gratitude for the things you already have , you will uncover more things to be grateful for in your life . Develop an attitude of gratitude and see your life change over the next year .
