Speaking of – the “ beach wave ” is all the rage in Waxhaw and beyond . The LOB (“ long bob ”) is popular with all age groups , says NOMA Salon Owner Angie Fortney .
Whether women prefer a LOB or want to keep their locks long , they all seem to use a straightener or curling wand . According to Fuzion Salon Co-Owner Jodi Sitton , “ People are getting a lot savvier at using their flat irons . And they ’ re using ideas and tutorials from Pinterest and YouTube to be more adventurous in their styles .”
For those who truly want to take a walk on the wild side , bright colors are the way to go ! Younger girls are requesting a daring , bold streak of pink or blue , oranges and reds , or even pastels . The more mature set are opting for varying shades of purple to spice up their salt and pepper gray . One customer at Fuzion gets a deep purple underneath her stacked bob -- a peekaboo purple , if you will . Others are requesting a lavender that blends with the gray . “ There are ways to do the bright fun fashion colors , while still being age and job appropriate ,” says Sitton .
Fashion colors tend to fade , so you want to be sure you get quality color . Color Bar owner , Lisa Reyes says her team only uses vibrant Elumen color because it lasts longer , but she also added that the color is easy to change . If a customer goes teal blue and wishes to swap to another color , she says they can fix it in as little as half an hour . Clients don ’ t have to be afraid to be adventurous . Take note though , that the funkier the color , the more upkeep it requires . Taking that under advisement , the bayalage technique is popular because it doesn ’ t leave a noticeable root . Or rather , it looks like grown out color , on purpose . A popular choice in this regard is a deep rose at the roots , then faded to blonde at the tips . While nouveau , it ’ s a style that can work in the real world . But for a more subdued appearance , warmer colors – caramels , golden blondes -- are the way to go !
As for celebrity requests , Jennifer Aniston continues to be the most requested look . Other popular styles include a Jennifer Lawrence pixie cut , the Victoria Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ’ s LOB and messy wave , and Lady Gaga ’ s rolled set retro ‘ do for a special occasion .

For those unfamiliar , victory rolls were what women in the World War II era donned when they didn ’ t have time to do the weekly sets , and instead opted to tease the hair at the top and use their hands to make swirls and loops and pin them into place .
