Waxhaw Happenings February 2019 | Page 2

WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE On January 24th and 25th, Town of Waxhaw Board of Commissioners and staff gathered for their annual retreat. This retreat is a workshop in which the staff and Board reflect on the past year, set goals, and establish their priorities for the year ahead. This year, the Board of Commissioners discussed the balanced decision-making process, and how best to communicate with staff about town projects and get the information they need to make informed decisions. The Board and staff collaborated to address some of the town’s biggest challenges, including growth management, traffic congestion, and tax base diversification. One of the more immediate action items is implementing one of the recommendations from the Urban Land Institute report on how to improve our already thriving downtown. The parking lot behind the Niven-Price building will have some small modifications to accommodate more cars and address downtown’s need for more parking. To read more about the ULI report, see pgs. 3-5. The Board of Commissioners and staff can agree that our focus in 2019 is building connections in our community. Parks & Recreation has begun registration for programming that will bring residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds together for activities and education. See the Winter-Spring program calendar on page 6. We look forward to achieving our goals and objectives as a team in 2019. Greg Ferguson Greg Ferguson Town Manager [email protected]
