he event was sponsored by the DST, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the Water Research Commission (WRC), and Hitachi, with a message of support from the Embassy of Japan. The programme director/facilitator was Dr Henry Roman, acting chief director: sector innovation and green economy at the DST. Muzi Chonco, head of environmental management and water risks at AB Inbev, delivered an interesting keynote address where he emphasised the private-public partnership (PPP) role needed to harness water and sanitation. Each of the beneficiaries delivered a brief on their engineering ideas, which was well received by the audience. The seminar ended with panel members providing insight into the new skills technology and the need to draw from their experiences of the veterans in the field. At the same time, it was essential to ‘allow young minds to flourish.’ The seminar was closed with a brief message from the branch representative of Hitachi Europe and William Moraka of SALGA.
