washington business AWB 2019 Legislative Day and Hill Climb Gets a Makeover The annual AWB Legislative Day and Hill Climb is moving locations — from the Hotel RL to AWB’s headquarters and the Capitol Campus. The event will take place Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Olympia. Taking advantage of the newly-remodeled conference space and high-tech equipment, the association will hold its board meeting at the AWB office. A shuttle will transport attendees up to the Capitol for meetings with lawmakers as part of the Hill Climb portion of the day and for a reception with lawmakers. Nominations for the awards are open for the 2019 awards and the deadline to apply is June 30, 2019. AWB member employers in any industry sector and of all sizes can nominate their company or community members can nominate a business in six award categories: • The Washington Achieve Award — Recognizing a business who has excelled in creating, implementing or supporting a high-caliber education and/or workforce development system aligned with closing the employment gap. AWB is pleased to again offer its six-month Employment Law webinar series to help Washington businesses more easily understand employment law. • The Washington Connect Award — Recognizing a business whose products and/ or services have positively impacted the way in which Washington employers and communities are connected to each other and the world. The six sessions, which begin next February and continue with one each month, offer the latest news and updates on common topics like wages and hours, performance evaluations, accident prevention and more. • Leading Environmental Practices — Recognizing a business that has put a priority on environmental improvement, education or outreach to their business sector and/ or community. • The Washington Advance Award — Recognizing a business who has had a significant impact in their sector, contributing to the advancement of their community and/or statewide economy. • Entrepreneur of the Year — Given to an entrepreneur whose business is less than five years old and has made a significant impact in their industry. • Employer of the Year — Recognizing an employer who has implemented innovative job retention, creation, benefits, and/or compensation plans that fosters a thriving work environment.
