Second Class of Leadership Washington Kicks off
at Policy Summit
AWB Takes Home Second Place Award Again in National
Chamber of the Year Competition
After the graduation of the first class of Leadership Washington at
the 2015 Spring Meeting, the second class of young state leaders
is kicking off their program at Policy Summit.
For the second year in a row, AWB was runner-up in the prestigious Chamber
of the Year competition conducted by the Association of Chamber of
Commerce Executives (ACCE).
Leadership Washington is the state’s premier nine-month training
program for the next generation of Washington state industry
leaders. Set in six of the state’s diverse regions, each session
focuses on a different aspect of the state’s economy or political
system.
AWB was one of three finalists again this year in the category for the largest
chamber association. AWB President Kris Johnson traveled to Montreal
in August for final judging and the announcement of the winner during
ACCE's annual convention. The other two finalists were the Greater Omaha
Chamber of Commerce, which took first place, and the Georgia Chamber
of Commerce.
This year’s schedule includes:
Session One: Public policy and the economy, held at AWB’s annual
Policy Summit, Suncadia Resort, Cle Elum, in September.
Session Two: Agriculture, energy, immigration, held in the Tri-Cities
in October.
Session Three: The role of business in public policy and politics,
water quality, military, held at AWB’s annual Legislative Summit,
Olympia, in January.
Session Four: Research, high-tech/biotech, import/export, held in
Seattle in February.
Session Five: International commerce, manufacturing, food
processing, border communities, held in Mount Vernon in March.
Session Six: Health care, military, manufacturing, held at AWB’s
annual Spring Meeting in Spokane in May.
While applications have closed for the class of 2016, there is still
an opportunity to become involved or apply for next year’s class.
