Wanderlust. Volume 1 | Page 7

LAUREN BRIMHALL PHOTOGRAPHY Europe this past year with panels on the situation in Ukraine, the recent migration crisis, the Greek economic collapse and the tensions in France, as exemplified by the Charlie Hebdo and kosher market shootings. Our center is unique in the US in its focus on the border regions of the EU, including the newer accession states from the Former Eastern Bloc and the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. Europe’s borders frame the political and diplomatic framework of the EU and current debates about war and migration in Europe. The Center’s migration working group will continue to produce analyses, lectures, courses, and publications on the topic of migration and minorities in Europe. A liberal arts education is ours for a lifetime; the Center’s interdisciplinary humanities and social science approach incorporates insight, research, and methodologies across departments to cultivate a rich learning environment for young scholars engaged in European studies. I hope Wanderlust will serve as a reminder of the programming and opportunities offered by the UF Center for European Studies. All of our events are open to the general public and information about upcoming events can be found at our website: ces. ufl.edu and our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ ces.ufl. We hope to see you there! Alice Freifeld, Director PS. As a final note, the Center has just created a photography archive as part of our “Getting to Know Grant” designed to capture Florida’s connection to Europe through family ancestry. Do you have treasured photographs of your family’s European past? Please consider donating digital copies for an online, open-access photography archive that will be housed on the UF Libraries’ website.
