riginally from Russia, Dr. Sergei Shabanov came to
the University of Florida in 1999 as a research fellow
in physics and an adjunct professor of Mathematics and is
now a professor of Mathematics and an affiliate professor of
Physics.
He is currently collaborating on three main research projects that deal with mathematical physics and applied mathematics. The first of these studies the forces of interaction
between elementary particles, while the second works with
photonics—the manipulation of light for the purpose of
governing it and altering its properties.
While these both take place at UF, his third project is in
conjunction with the Federal Institute for Materials and
