NOTTINGHAM
Though Nottingham may never shake
its association with Robin Hood and
his band of merry men, the city is fast
becoming known for its dynamic life-
style, historic streets and lively music
scene. From William the Conqueror’s
fascinating castle, and the honey-
comb of caverns and passageways
that lie beneath the city streets, to the
beautiful green sprawl surrounding
Elizabethan country house Wollaton
Hall, Nottingham is home to some of
the UK’s must-see sights.
And just like the city that surrounds
it, the University of Nottingham
has strived to mirror this picturesque
landscape, creating a campus com-
plete with plenty of green space. The
original University Park campus has
even won many Green Flag awards for
its excellent parkland, and the nearby
Jubilee campus, with futuristic build-
ings and facilities, cluster around a
picture-perfect lake.
Beyond leafy accolades, the univer-
sity has maintained an ongoing repu-
tation for excellence and is particularly
strong in pharmacy and pharmacolo-
gy, in which it is ranked sixth in the QS
World University Rankings by subject,
as well as education and training and
English language and literature.
After a day of studying or buffing
up on local history, the University of
Nottingham has plenty on offer for
blowing off some steam. Sports en-
thusiasts will be pleased to discov-
er the superb facilities at the Sports
Village, including a swimming pool
and three fully-equipped fitness suites.
Meanwhile, lovers of the arts can enjoy
a jam-packed calendar at Nottingham
Lakeside Arts — the University’s public
museum and arts centre. This hotspot
has become one of the region’s most
exciting arts venues, presenting exhi-
bitions, drama, music and dance, as
well as special collections.
