elcome to the second
issue of Wanderlust: Expat
Life & Style in Thailand
and our first-ever holiday issue.
As an expat, it can be challenging
to feel festive around the holidays.
Fortunately, we have a few tricks
up our sleeve to help with
that. In our “Ask Luciana”
section, you’ll find practical tips
on how to beat the holiday blues.
There is also a handy chart of various
year-end events in Phuket, so take
a peek and make some plans,
especially if you live on the island.
And, if you’ll be celebrating
Christmas with gleeful children
around your feet—even if they
aren’t your children—you must
already know that the holiday
is really about the kids. We hope
you will use our kids’ gift guide
to help you find the perfect
present. If all else fails, test out our
New Year’s cocktail recipe brought
to you by food aficionado and expat
woman Vanessa. (Hope you caught
the humor there.)
This issue isn’t just about
the holidays, though. Inside
the magazine you’ll read several
inspirational stories about expat
women in Thailand.

Gracing the cover is the lovely
Laura from London, who poses
in a fashion photoshoot and gives
us a snapshot of her expat life. We like
her spark and personality and think
you will, too. In the “Bangkok
Rising” article, meet Chii Mutsaka
Skyum, the founder of a volunteer
group working to end violence
against women. Families will
be in awe of Rose Swagemakers
and her crew, after learning
how she traveled the world with
her kids on a one-year journey
that changed her family forever.
And don’t miss the five-page feature
by expat Sarah Cason, who tells
the story of how she overcame fears,
stepped out of her comfort zone,
and started Bangkok Roller Derby—
it’s a great essay and you’ll love
the fun photoshoot of the team.
What we hope this issue brings
you is a good dose of holiday cheer,
bolstered with enough inspiration
to make your 2015 the best year yet.
Wishing you a wonderful
Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Shannon
