A JOURNEY SHARED
Simi’s own experience in setting up
Umpire Legal has meant she is able
to relate to her clients in a way that
other firms simply can not. As a Thai
national, the shareholding process
was a little simpler for her, but the
company structuring and require-
ments were exactly the same. “It
could be a tricky process at times, but
it was exciting. For the past few years
I had been working with clients and
helping them to start up their own
businesses, and I kept thinking one
day I was going to do it for myself.”
But it’s not just small-to-medium en-
terprises that Umpire Legal have been
working with. The last few months
have even seen the firm helping famed
British biscuit brand Ben’s Cookies
bring their tasty treats to Bangkok,
working with them for four months on
setting up the company, registrations,
and getting FDA approval for the im-
port of mixes and ingredients.
It has been an incredibly reward-
ing process for the young lawyer, not
just professionally, but personally too.
“I love being my own boss and being
able to improve my work-life balance.
Plus, some of the clients I have helped
to set up their own business over the
last few months have gone on to be-
come great friends of mine.”

IN THE FAMILY
Simi has dedicated the last few years
of her life to her profession, working
to obtain her undergraduate degree
here in Thailand, a masters degree in
London, and a lawyers license, before
spending several years working in
the field. But despite this dedication
to hard work, she recognizes the im-
portance of a life beyond the office.
Indeed, one of the main motivators
for her in launching Umpire Legal
was the flexibility it would allow her
to start her own family.
Perhaps this is why the firm of-
fers legal guidance not only in cor-
porate law, but family law, too. From
marriage registration and prenuptial
agreements, to divorce and beyond,
Umpire Legal’s professional but pa-
tient approach aims to put all clients
at ease throughout the process. But
while these services tend to be used
on an as-needed basis, there’s one
area of family law that Simi thinks we
should all be paying more attention to:
“Expats need to think about putting
together a last will and testament, es-
pecially if they have children. It’s not
something we often think about, but
the consequences of not having this in
place can be devastating for a family.”
Writing a will is never an easy step,
but putting this simple measure in
place ensures that assets you have
here in Thailand go to your assigned
beneficiaries and that any children
you have are placed in the care of
someone you trust.
Whether you’re here with a blos-
soming business idea, a passion for
teaching or to raise a family, it’s im-
portant to take care of the legal as-
pects to every corner of your life
for complete peace of mind — and
Umpire Legal is only a call away.
