WHOA Versatility Show November 3, 2018 • Mt. Vernon, Illinois Saturday November 3rd marked the second WHOA Versatility Show to be held in Mt. Vernon, IL in 2018.   It was an amazing day at the Mt. Vernon WHOA versatility show!!! It was a windy day but the temps and sunshine made the day nice enough for a light jacket.  Overall the show boasted 135 entries!!!! VERY NICE  turnout!!!!  The King City Saddle club has a beautiful large covered arena that also boasts numerous camper hook- ups and a shower house.  Not to be forgotten on the grounds during the show is the delicious cook shack, ran by Susan Drennan, providing all the great fair food you can eat!  Folks I can tell you from personal tasting that the offerings at the COOK SHACK are second to none and a great and unusual variety. For members of the saddle club trail riding is available right from the grounds!  Limited covered stalls are available.  Contact King City Saddle Club (Hallie) at 618-367-4146 about the benefits of a very low cost club membership!   The show started with three BRAND NEW/FIRST EVER WHOA SHOW eleven and under youth rid- ers who started the day in a challenging trail obstacle class.  Not to be outdone the adult trail obstacle class boosted seven entries!  The Honorable Debbie Birk provided the call on numerous tough classes during the day.  In all 135 entries made the gate to provide an- nouncer Tommy Hall with excitement.  Besides 11 and under youth four 12-17 youth held their own in numer- ous classes during the day!  The largest class of the day was Gaited Pleasure with 12 tough entries! First place winners were also presented with hand- blown small vases donated by two talented ladies from St. Louis. These vases were a much coveted item and the exhibitors were riding hard to obtain possession of the beautiful trophies.  Following the WHOA Versatility Show was am IBRA Open Barrel Race organized by WHOA member Hallie Drennan Pollard which raised around $250 dollars to be used toward 2019 costs for WHOA Versatility Shows in Southern Illinois.  THANK YOU to HALLIE and all who helped make this event a success. We are already looking forward to these shows again in 2019.  Mt. Vernon, IL is just under 4 hours from Murfreesboro, TN and an easy drive up Interstates 64 14 • Walking On and 57.
