WHOA Versatility Show
October 13, 2018 • Perryville, Missouri
Just in from a GOOD show in Perryville, Missouri.
What a pleasure to see old friends, new friends, sea-
soned horses and fresh young horses just ready to make
their impact on the show ring. Really nice show and a
big thanks to the Jim Morris Stables for obtaining spon-
sorships for the Racking Classes AND for bringing their
World Champion Racking Horses thus giving us walk-
ers a treat to watch this breed perform. The Jim Morris
Stables also provided the cut glass tray awarded to the
winner of the Championship Class. THANK S!!!
Ably judged by Charlie Brown the show moved with
effiency on a COLD, blistery day that could have eas-
ily passed for a mid -January day. This old doll didn’t
thaw out till she was back in the south!!! Eric Walhers
did an excellent job of having the Perry County Saddle
Club grounds in perfect condition. The concessions had
terrific Bar-B-Que (either plates or sandwiches), Chili
seasoned with a kick and very tasty. A big run at the
concessions was the demand for HOT coffee and HOT
chocolate---did I mention it was COLD??? I could not
have gotten everything done without the help of Susan
Hill. While husband, Dennis was busy showing and
collecting several blue ribbons with his International
Champion Weanling and top Model Horse, Watch Out
Here I Come, Susie was helping Tommy and me with
the money allotment and ribbon distribution. THANK
YOU! A big shout out to Randy ????? for his help at the
gate! Although Randy wasn’t the “gate man” he man-
aged to get ‘er dun while taking care of the grooming
responsibilities. THANK YOU, Randy. Jodi Bubar did
a superb job as Ring Mistress, Photographer ( on de-
mand) and Ribbon Girl when needed. Jodi we appreci-
ate your help as always.
The show was a “casual” dress show and when you
view the pictures you will see the impact the weather
had on the dress code! Folks had on toboggans-gloves-
neck scarves- BLANKETS, 44o with the wind blowing
and still the WHOA/Racking folks showed up to enter-
tain us with their fine moving animals.
Several International Champions were on hand
and in blue ribbon form. Tonic and Julie Carlson had
a good show winning the Championship Class as did
He’s Pretty Reckless. “Roany Pony” strutted his stuff for
Cheyenne Higgins who was aboard him for one of his
International wins and then Ashley Smith guided him to
a blue or two at Perryville. Owner Angie Runnels was
pleased as punch with her nieces’ wins. It was a treat to
me to see Debbie Birk back in the show ring. Debbie
won the H20 and the Egg and Spoon classes; however
Ashley Lehman was giving her hot competition in those
classes and Ashley won the Catalogue Race!
Brady Backhert all grown up and attending the show
on his own won several classes. A couple with She’s Fun
N Games and his young horse was walking right along
for good placings. Brady thanks for technology skills
and your help.

Gimme Solidarity and Ashley Smith,
proud owner and Aunt, Angie Runnels,
He’s Pretty reckless and Cheyenne Higgins.
Angie is just as proud of her good riding
nieces as she is her talented International
Champions.
