Walking On Volume 4, Issue 10, October 2017 | Page 10
A horse in NY who has
struggled with EPM pic-
tured at the beginning of
his raindrop, starting on
the feet. Within 5 days of
his raindrop, he was able
to jump again, something
he hadn’t done in several
years.
If the farms the plants were originally sourced
from are not growing without chemical pesticides
and fertilizers, this is a potential source of toxic
residue highly concentrated into the oil. It takes a
huge amount of plant material to make a tiny bit of
oil, and the residues remain in the oil. In addition,
many oil distilleries add a chemical called hexanes
(banned as a carcinogen in some European coun-
tries) to increase the amount of oil that can be dis-
tilled. It is not possible to get the hexanes back out
of the oil and you do not want to apply a potential
carcinogen to yourself or your horse! Just be care-
ful to use a safe, effective source, or you are wasting
your money and risking applying toxins.
I only work with Young Living oils because this is
the only oils company that actually owns their own
farms, and their standards go well beyond organic. I
have been to several of the farms, to the distilleries,
and I have seen Gary Young’s beautiful Percheron
and Friesian show horses. I use the oils on myself,
my family, and my horses daily, and we do a rain-
drop whenever someone needs a bit more support.
It is very affordable at less than $10.00 per raindrop
for your horse.
If you use a chiropractor or massage therapist, it
is a great idea to do a raindrop before they arrive. It
will make their job much easier and the effects of
the adjustment or massage will last longer. A typi-
cal raindrop session, if you do all of it, may take an
hour, but you can do mini raindrops that only take
5-10 minutes using targeted oils for specific issues,
or just take 1 minute to apply a single oil such as
lavender if your horse is going into a situation where
he may become excited. A raindrop is like using the
big guns, and it may take several days to see the full
effects. Often all you need is 1 or 2 oils on a daily or
occasional basis.
The oils we use support specific issues such as in-
flammation, immune challenges, joint issues, rehab
from injuries, and it can be useful when saddle fit
has been a problem and you are supporting the spine
(of course you must change to a correct fitting saddle
as well). Oils are enormously helpful when dealing
with emotional issues such as when a horse has been
through trauma, come out of a rescue situation, or
even just the stress of daily life and transition in
routine. Oils support body systems including the
respiratory, circulatory, digestive, hormonal, and
endocrine systems.
If you would like more information on how to do
a raindrop on your horse, how to purchase raindrop
oils, or how oils might fit in to your health regimen,
please get in touch with me! I regularly teach equine
raindrop clinics and classes on using essential oils in
central TN. If you would like to host a clinic, your
horse gets a free raindrop. If you live in another part
of the country, I can work with you via phone and
internet.
Essential oils are a simple and affordable way to
support all of the health challenges you or your horse
might deal with, and once you start using them, you
will wish you had discovered them sooner!
