WHOA Service Horse School A Success
The 2016 Walking
Horse Owners’ Association (WHOA) Service
Horse School was held
June 13-17 at Williamson
County Ag. Expo Park in
Franklin, Tennessee. The
school attracted participants from around the
country that wished to
learn more about using
their horses in the srevice
of others.
Instructors for this
year’s school included
Retired Mounted Patrol
Sergeants JD Harber and
Terry Palmer, Retired Lt.
Richard Verbosky, Retired Tennessee State Park
Ranger Kenny Daniel, and
Lawrence Beal, Director
of the County Mounties
Search and Rescue. Additionally, participants were
treated to presentations by
a number of clinicians.
This year’s cirriculum
was filled with interesting topics. Those topics
included Formation
Riding, Obstacle Riding,
De-spooking, Vehicle Escort, Crowd Management,
Self-Defence From Horseback, Emergency First Aid
for Horse Injuries, Current
Trends in Working Events,
Dignitary Protection, and
Packing for a Search and
Rescue.
