getting off the ground with this new service horse program and plan on expanding to other locations to make it easier for people who are interested in using their horses in the service of their communities as mounted patrol or search and rescue to attend. We also do one day events which are competitions now at the International and the Tennessee State Fair. They are loads of fun and a great test for you and your horse. These are through WHOA and if you are interested in putting on an event in your area you can contact WHOA. 10. Aside from mounted patrol , how else have you been involved with the breed? Like I said above, I grew up in the Walking Horse Business. My family has been in the business since the 60s and I trained horses for a living in the 70s (although I wasn’t very good at it). Now I love to trail ride and I love the Big South Fork area. I have a palomino Tennessee Walker Named Ranger J.B. Long who is named after one of my hero’s that was a Border Patrol and later a DEA special agent. I love to go rock hopping in the mountains when I can and when I can’t go anywhere else you can find me out on the trails at Percy Warner Park. 8 • Walking On 11. What equine related honors have you received? I Have an exemplary service award from Metro Nashville for my work establishing the Mounted Patrol Unit, I have several other certificates of appreciation from various city governments for assisting their departments with their mounted patrol unit. Joe and I got a lifesaving award. I received the 2010 TWHBEA Pleasure Horse Ambassador award. 12. What are your goals for the WHOA service horse program? I want the WHOA service horse program to encourage horse lovers of all breeds to use their horses and talents in the service of their communities and others. I want the program to help horse people learn sound humane training techniques to make their horses the best they can be. I would like to see the WHOA Service Horse Program have a website where people with service horses can communicate on current events, document training, do online training, and find service horse related information. 13. Is there anything else you would like to say? Oh hell yes but I got stalls to clean.
