Walkers Shine At Western States Horse Expo
The Northern California Walking
Horse Association has participated in
the Western States Horse Expo since
the club was founded in 2008. Members have provided horses for the breed
demonstrations and staffed the breed
booth. This year, the NCWHA was able
to again participate in the Horse Expo
thanks to a very generous donation from
the Tennessee Walking Horse Foundation.
Five flat shod Tennessee Walking
Horses participated in the breed demonstrations this year. Susan Cole of Auburn, CA showed her horse Jump Start
in English tack and attire. Michaela
Korn of Grass Valley, CA showed Leigh
Estes’ horse Gen’s Tennessee Colors.
Claudia Booth of Colfax, CA showed her
horse Irish River Dance. Both of these
horses represented the Spotted Tennessee Walking Horse. Irish River Dance
was a particular hit with his unique
splash grey dappled tobiano color pattern. Nicole Schoppe of Grass Valley,
CA showed Fran Cole’s horse Dollar
Generator, demonstrating how the Tennessee Walking Horse can be used for
dressage. And Gaye DeRusso of Walnut
Creek, CA rode her horse Benny’s Coin
Pusher and demonstrated the versatility
of the Tennessee Walking Horse. Kris
Herman announced for the demonstrations. The breed booth was staffed by
various NCWHA members and Pauline
Stotsenburg came up from Southern
California to help. The booth provided
information for visitors and one of the
demonstration horses was stabled next
to the booth to allow visitors to see a
Tennessee Walking Horse up close and
personal and experience their wonderful
temperaments.
The Northern California Walking
Horse Association plans to participate in
the Western States Horse Expo again in
2015 to continue to promote the Tennessee Walking Horse.
